Spirulina, which is not an algae in the true sense of the word but a blue-green bacteria, is not very impressive at just 0.3 millimeters in size. But on closer inspection it turns out to be a real powerhouse. Since its cells have no nucleus and its cell membrane is very soft, the nutrients it contains can be absorbed easily through the intestines. When metabolized, it can have a positive effect on the formation of bases and thus on the acid balance of the stomach.

It consists of almost 70% highly digestible protein and contains a variety of vitamins, trace elements, minerals, chlorophyll and amino acids. This makes it suitable as a supplement for those with increased activity requirements. The blue pigment phycocyanin it contains can have a supportive effect on the liver and kidney circulation and can capture free hydroxyl radicals. Since spirulina is not a seaweed, its iodine content is rather low.
